והא נביא דיי אתא משבט יהודה בפתגמא דיי לבית אל וירבעם קאים על אגורא לאקטרא:
laqTra agwra el qaym wyrbem al lbyth dyy bpthgma yhwdh mshbT atha dyy nbya wha
Behold, a man of God came out of Judah by Yahweh’s word to Bethel; and Jeroboam was standing by the altar to burn incense.

ואתנבי על אגורא בפתגמא דיי ואמר מדבחא מדבחא כדנן אמר יי הא ברא מתיליד לבית דוד יאשיהו שמיה וינכיס עלך ית כומרי במתא דאסיקו בוסמין עלך וגרמי אנשא יוקדון עלך:
elk ywqdwn ansha wgrmy elk bwsmyn dasyqw bmtha kwmry yth elk wynkys shmyh yashyhw dwd lbyth mthylyd bra ha yy amr kdnn mdbkha mdbkha wamr dyy bpthgma agwra el wathnby
He cried against the altar by Yahweh’s word, and said, “Altar! Altar! Yahweh says: ‘Behold, a son will be born to David’s house, Josiah by name. On you he will sacrifice the priests of the high places who burn incense on you, and they will burn men’s bones on you.’”

ויתן ביומא ההוא אתא למימר דא אתא די מליל יי דתידעון די שלחני יי הא מדבחא מתבזע ומשתפיך קטמא די עלוהי:
elwhy dy qTma wmshthpyk mthbze mdbkha ha yy shlkhny dy dthydewn yy mlyl dy atha da lmymr atha hhwa bywma wythn
He gave a sign the same day, saying, “This is the sign which Yahweh has spoken: Behold, the altar will be split apart, and the ashes that are on it will be poured out.”

והוה כד שמע מלכא ית פתגמא דנביא דיי דאתנבי על אגורא בבית אל ואושיט ירבעם ית ידיה מעילוי מדבחא למימר אחדוהי ויבשת ידיה דאושיט עלוהי ולא יכיל לאתבותיה לותיה:
lwthyh lathbwthyh ykyl wla elwhy dawshyT ydyh wybshth akhdwhy lmymr mdbkha meylwy ydyh yth yrbem wawshyT al bbyth agwra el dathnby dyy dnbya pthgma yth mlka shme kd whwh
When the king heard the saying of the man of God, which he cried against the altar in Bethel, Jeroboam put out his hand from the altar, saying, “Seize him!” His hand, which he put out against him, dried up, so that he could not draw it back again to himself.

ומדבחא אתבזע ואשתפיך קטמא מן מדבחא כאתא דיהב נביא דיי בפתגמא דיי:
dyy bpthgma dyy nbya dyhb katha mdbkha mn qTma washthpyk athbze wmdbkha
The altar was also split apart, and the ashes poured out from the altar, according to the sign which the man of God had given by Yahweh’s word.

ואתיב מלכא ואמר לנביא דיי צלי כען קדם יי אלהך ובעי מן קדמוהי ותתוב ידי לי וצלי נביא דיי קדם יי ותבת ידא דמלכא ליה והות כקדמיתא:
kqdmytha whwth lyh dmlka yda wthbth yy qdm dyy nbya wtsly ly ydy wththwb qdmwhy mn wbey alhk yy qdm ken tsly dyy lnbya wamr mlka wathyb
The king answered the man of God, “Now intercede for the favor of Yahweh your God, and pray for me, that my hand may be restored me again.” The man of God interceded with Yahweh, and the king’s hand was restored to him again, and became as it was before.

ומליל מלכא עם נביא דיי עול עמי לביתא וסעוד ואתן לך מתנא:
mthna lk wathn wsewd lbytha emy ewl dyy nbya em mlka wmlyl
The king said to the man of God, “Come home with me and refresh yourself, and I will give you a reward.”
8
ואמר נביא דיי למלכא אם תתן לי ית פלגות ביתך לא איעול עמך ולא איכול לחמא ולא אשתי מיא באתרא הדין:
hdyn bathra mya ashthy wla lkhma aykwl wla emk ayewl la bythk plgwth yth ly ththn am lmlka dyy nbya wamr
The man of God said to the king, “Even if you gave me half of your house, I would not go in with you, neither would I eat bread nor drink water in this place;

ארי כן פקיד יתי בפתגמא דיי למימר לא תיכול לחמא ולא תשתי תמן מיא ולא תתוב באורחא דאזלתא:
dazltha bawrkha ththwb wla mya thmn thshthy wla lkhma thykwl la lmymr dyy bpthgma ythy pqyd kn ary
for so was it commanded me by Yahweh’s word, saying, ‘You shall eat no bread, drink no water, and don’t return by the way that you came.’”

ואזל באורחא אוחרי ולא תב באורחא דאתא בה לבית אל:
al lbyth bh datha bawrkha thb wla awkhry bawrkha wazl
So he went another way, and didn’t return by the way that he came to Bethel.

ונביא שקרא חד סבא יתיב בבית אל ואתא בריה ואשתעי ליה ית כל עובדא דעבד נביא דיי יומא דין בבית אל ית פתגמיא דמליל עם מלכא ואשתעונון לאבוהון:
labwhwn washthewnwn mlka em dmlyl pthgmya yth al bbyth dyn ywma dyy nbya debd ewbda kl yth lyh washthey bryh watha al bbyth ythyb sba khd shqra wnbya
Now an old prophet lived in Bethel, and one of his sons came and told him all the works that the man of God had done that day in Bethel. They also told their father the words which he had spoken to the king.

ומליל להון אבוהון באי דא אורחא אזל ואחזיאו בנוהי ית אורחא דאזל נביא דיי דאתא משבטא דיהודה:
dyhwdh mshbTa datha dyy nbya dazl awrkha yth bnwhy wakhzyaw azl awrkha da bay abwhwn lhwn wmlyl
Their father said to them, “Which way did he go?” Now his sons had seen which way the man of God went, who came from Judah.

ואמר לבנוהי זריזו לי חמרא וזריזו ליה חמרא ורכיב עליה:
elyh wrkyb khmra lyh wzryzw khmra ly zryzw lbnwhy wamr
He said to his sons, “Saddle the donkey for me.” So they saddled the donkey for him; and he rode on it.

ואזל בתר נביא דיי ואשכחיה יתיב תחות בוטמא ואמר ליה האת נביא דיי דאתיתא משבטא יהודה ואמר אנא:
ana wamr yhwdh mshbTa dathytha dyy nbya hath lyh wamr bwTma thkhwth ythyb washkkhyh dyy nbya bthr wazl
He went after the man of God, and found him sitting under an oak. He said to him, “Are you the man of God who came from Judah?” He said, “I am.”

ואמר ליה איתא עמי לביתא ואכול לחמא:
lkhma wakwl lbytha emy aytha lyh wamr
Then he said to him, “Come home with me and eat bread.”
16
ואמר לא איכול למיתב עמך ולמיעל עמך ולא איכול לחמא ולא אשתי עמך מיא באתרא הדין:
hdyn bathra mya emk ashthy wla lkhma aykwl wla emk wlmyel emk lmythb aykwl la wamr
He said, “I may not return with you, nor go in with you. I will not eat bread or drink water with you in this place.

ארי גזירא עלי בפתגמא דיי לא תיכול לחמא ולא תשתי תמן מיא ולא תתוב למיזל באורחא דאזלתא בה:
bh dazltha bawrkha lmyzl ththwb wla mya thmn thshthy wla lkhma thykwl la dyy bpthgma ely gzyra ary
For it was said to me by Yahweh’s word, ‘You shall eat no bread or drink water there, and don’t turn again to go by the way that you came.’”

ואמר ליה אף אנא נביא כותך ומלאכא מליל עמי בפתגמא דיי למימר אתיבהי עמך לביתך וייכול לחמא וישתי מיא כדיב ליה:
lyh kdyb mya wyshthy lkhma wyykwl lbythk emk athybhy lmymr dyy bpthgma emy mlyl wmlaka kwthk nbya ana ap lyh wamr
He said to him, “I also am a prophet as you are; and an angel spoke to me by Yahweh’s word, saying, ‘Bring him back with you into your house, that he may eat bread and drink water.’” He lied to him.

ותב עמיה ואכל לחמא בביתיה ושתי מיא:
mya wshthy bbythyh lkhma wakl emyh wthb
So he went back with him, ate bread in his house, and drank water.
20
והוה עד דאינון מסחרין על פתורא והוה פתגם נבואה מן קדם יי לנביא דאתביה:
dathbyh lnbya yy qdm mn nbwah pthgm whwh pthwra el mskhryn daynwn ed whwh
As they sat at the table, Yahweh’s word came to the prophet who brought him back;

ואתנבי על נביא דיי דאתא משבטא יהודה למימר כדנן אמר יי חלף דסריבתא על מימרא דיי ולא נטרתא ית תפקדתא דפקדך יי אלהך:
alhk yy dpqdk thpqdtha yth nTrtha wla dyy mymra el dsrybtha khlp yy amr kdnn lmymr yhwdh mshbTa datha dyy nbya el wathnby
and he cried out to the man of God who came from Judah, saying, “Yahweh says, ‘Because you have been disobedient to Yahweh’s word, and have not kept the commandment which Yahweh your God commanded you,

ותבתא ואכלת לחמא ואשתיתא מיא באתרא דמליל עמך לא תיכול לחמא ולא תשתי מיא לא תתכניש נבלתך לקברא דאבהתך:
dabhthk lqbra nblthk ththknysh la mya thshthy wla lkhma thykwl la emk dmlyl bathra mya washthytha lkhma waklth wthbtha
but came back, and have eaten bread and drank water in the place of which he said to you, “Eat no bread, and drink no water,” your body will not come to the tomb of your fathers.’”
23
והוה בתר דאכלו לחמא ובתר דשתיאו וזרז ליה חמרא לנביא דאתביה:
dathbyh lnbya khmra lyh wzrz dshthyaw wbthr lkhma daklw bthr whwh
After he had eaten bread and after he drank, he saddled the donkey for the prophet whom he had brought back.

ואזל ואשכחיה אריא באורחא וקטליה והות נבילתיה רמיא באורחא וחמרא קאים לקבלא ואריא קאים בסטר נבלתא:
nbltha bsTr qaym warya lqbla qaym wkhmra bawrkha rmya nbylthyh whwth wqTlyh bawrkha arya washkkhyh wazl
When he had gone, a lion met him by the way and killed him. His body was thrown on the path, and the donkey stood by it. The lion also stood by the body.

והא גבריא עברין וחזו ית נבלתא רמיא באורחא וית אריא קאים בסטר נבלתא ואתו ומלילו בקרתא דנביא שקרא סבא יתיב בה:
bh ythyb sba shqra dnbya bqrtha wmlylw wathw nbltha bsTr qaym arya wyth bawrkha rmya nbltha yth wkhzw ebryn gbrya wha
Behold, men passed by and saw the body thrown on the path, and the lion standing by the body; and they came and told it in the city where the old prophet lived.
26
ושמע נביא דאתביה מן אורחא ואמר נביא דיי הוא דסריב על מימרא דיי ומסריה יי לאריא ותבריה וקטליה כפתגמא דיי דמליל ליה:
lyh dmlyl dyy kpthgma wqTlyh wthbryh larya yy wmsryh dyy mymra el dsryb hwa dyy nbya wamr awrkha mn dathbyh nbya wshme
When the prophet who brought him back from the way heard of it, he said, “It is the man of God who was disobedient to Yahweh’s word. Therefore Yahweh has delivered him to the lion, which has mauled him and slain him, according to Yahweh’s word which he spoke to him.”
27
ומליל עם בנוהי למימר זריזו לי ית חמרא וזריזו:
wzryzw khmra yth ly zryzw lmymr bnwhy em wmlyl
He said to his sons, saying, “Saddle the donkey for me,” and they saddled it.
28
ואזל ואשכח ית נבלתיה רמיא באורחא וחמרא ואריא קימין בסטר נבלתא לא אכל אריא ית נבלתא ולא תבר ית חמרא:
khmra yth thbr wla nbltha yth arya akl la nbltha bsTr qymyn warya wkhmra bawrkha rmya nblthyh yth washkkh wazl
He went and found his body thrown on the path, and the donkey and the lion standing by the body. The lion had not eaten the body nor mauled the donkey.

ונטל נביא שקרא ית נבלתא דנביא דיי ואחתיה על חמרא ואתיביה ואתא לקרתא דנביא שקרא סבא למספד ולמקבריה:
wlmqbryh lmspd sba shqra dnbya lqrtha watha wathybyh khmra el wakhthyh dyy dnbya nbltha yth shqra nbya wnTl
The prophet took up the body of the man of God, and laid it on the donkey, and brought it back. He came to the city of the old prophet to mourn, and to bury him.
30
ואחית ית נבלתא בקבריה וספדו עלוהי וי על אחא:
akha el wy elwhy wspdw bqbryh nbltha yth wakhyth
He laid his body in his own grave; and they mourned over him, saying, “Alas, my brother!”
31
והוה בתר דקברו יתיה ואמר לבנוהי למימר כד אימות ותקברון יתי בקברא דנביא דיי קביר ביה בסטר גרמוהי אחיתו ית גרמי:
grmy yth akhythw grmwhy bsTr byh qbyr dyy dnbya bqbra ythy wthqbrwn aymwth kd lmymr lbnwhy wamr ythyh dqbrw bthr whwh
After he had buried him, he spoke to his sons, saying, “When I am dead, bury me in the tomb in which the man of God is buried. Lay my bones beside his bones.
32
ארי אתקימא יתקים פתגמא דאתנבי בפתגמא דיי על אגורא די בבית אל ועל כל בתי במתא די בקירוי שמרון:
shmrwn bqyrwy dy bmtha bthy kl wel al bbyth dy agwra el dyy bpthgma dathnby pthgma ythqym athqyma ary
For the saying which he cried by Yahweh’s word against the altar in Bethel, and against all the houses of the high places which are in the cities of Samaria, will surely happen.”
33
בתר פתגמא הדין לא תב ירבעם מאורחיה בישתא ותב ועבד קצת מן עמא כומרי במתא דרעי מקריב ית קורבניה ויהון כומרין לבמתא:
lbmtha kwmryn wyhwn qwrbnyh yth mqryb drey bmtha kwmry ema mn qtsth webd wthb byshtha mawrkhyh yrbem thb la hdyn pthgma bthr
After this thing, Jeroboam didn’t turn from his evil way, but again made priests of the high places from among all the people. Whoever wanted to, he consecrated him, that there might be priests of the high places.
